    GoDaddy hosts my wordpress blog at karensbellblog.com. Subscribe 2 worked for many years by sending an email notification for new posts. A few months ago it stopped being automatic. I can send a preview email. In the setting directions it says set to 0 for unlimited individual emails but on your troubleshooting page it says should be set to 1. I reset to 1. No automatic email sent. I manually sent to my subscribers but that is not satisfactory because I like the format of the automatic email. I called GoDaddy last month because your troubleshooting said something about Chron settings and support helped me and it seemed to prompt an email. Now I can’t remember what to do with chron or how to find it. I just want the plugin to work as before. It was great when it worked.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Thanks for the detail here – it helps a lot.

    Can I check – are you sending notification emails when new posts are published or in a digest format on a timed basis? Cron only applies to the digest emails.

    Also, another couple of things to check:
    1/ In Subscribe2 > Settings, have you got any excluded categories checked?
    2/ Can you install an email logging plugin (perhaps this one) so we can check if the emails are generated

    I am sending individual emails.Ok no cron problem then. I have WP mail log installed. No automatic emails were generated in the log that’s why I sent manually. After I sent manually, sent mail was logged. I do not have any excluded categories checked.

    Thanks

    It is possible in Subscribe2 to stop posts sending on a per post basis – are you using the new Gutenberg Editor? Or the Classic Editor? Which version of WordPress are you using?

    Also, in Settings ->Subscribe2 under the Appearance tab, is the option “Disable email notifications is checked by default on authoring pages?” checked?

    Wordpress 5.1.1 send email after post is selected. No the disable email under the appearance tab is not checked. How do I determine which editor I’m using?

    Thanks

    @kartim

    Does your editor look lie the images here:

    WordPress Block Editor

    Or here:

    Classic

    @kartim

    Okay, thanks for your patience so far. To recap – you are using the Classic Editor plugin, per post notifications so email should send as soon as you publish new posts. You have no excluded categories in the Subscribe2 > Settings menu under the Registered Users tab and under the Appearance tab on that same page the “Disable email notifications is checked by default on authoring pages?” option is not checked.

    You have an email logger installed and when you write a new post and hit publish the logger shows no emails as generated.

    Is all of that correct? It’s very strange if that is the case – it should be working – the best ideas I have at the moment are to look for plugin conflicts by deactivating other plugins to see if that helps.

    Oh well. I know that you said cron was for digest only but last time I got dodaddy help and deleted something with cron (chron?) and email was sent. Pls tell me where to find cron and what to change.

    @kartim

    Perhaps try installing the WP-Crontol plugin then – it allows you to view the cron jobs that exist in WordPress and also when they run.

    Once it’s installed and active, go to Tools > Cron Events. Is there an event in there called ‘s2_digest_cron’. Also in he ‘Next Run’ column where all the scheduled dates are shown are they in the future? Or Past and all say (now) in brackets by the side?

    Installed the plugin and got this message

    Unexpected HTTP response code: 429

    There was a problem spawning a call to the WP-Cron system on your site. This means WP-Cron events on your site may not work. The problem was:

    @kartim

    Okay, that still might be nothing to do with your issue with Subscribe2 but it seems you need to speak to GoDaddy again about getting WordPress cron events working on your site.

    Thanks I will.
