• I read the plug in page, installed because I though it was the best image opt plug in, WebP next generation format that saves size was a must, although they require the pro, so I signed for Pro.

    Then when looking for the option to enable WebP, I see that local storage is not supported and you must enable Smush CDN. But the problem is..

    I ALREADY HAVE A BETTER CDN.

    I use Cloudflare because for Latin America where my users are, it has tens of locations, SMUSH CDN has only 1. So even having two CDN is not a great idea, serving images with their CDN instead of CloudFlare would result in Slower speed for my users.

    A Waste of time for me, uninstalling now. They should clarify that WebP is not supported locally yet, and how it works. I will search for another WebP option.

  • Hi @blogger99,

    Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry that your experience wasn’t great. We are working on adding local WebP support, so you can still continue on using your preferred CDN + have the optimization benefits of Smush.

    Also if you use Cloudflare and pay for a Pro account, you can try enabling Polish. It should handle image optimization and WebP for you ??

    Best regards,
    Anton

    I know, I guess Polish-WebP would mean no reason for using Smush, except one: CloudFlare pro is $240 yearly per site, Smush is $70.

    @blogger99,

    True. That’s why we’re working on adding support for WebP images to Smush. Hopefully, once that gets released, you can try out Smush once more and maybe change your mind about it.

    Best regards,
    Anton

    How much longer until WebP is available with smush when using Cloudflare? I’ve been holding out for a while and soon need to decide on a tool I’m going to purchase for this reason.

    is there any timeframe yet?

    @irdeto ,

    It’s under development and planned for 3.7.0 (hopefully, upcoming release)

    Best regards,
    Anton

    Looking forward to WebP for Smush Pro …
