I am trying to create a new form so that people can sign up for news about our upcoming events. We currently have a Newsletter form on our homepage that was created by a developer when we remade our website.

The API key is set up and the Newsletter form is functioning properly and has received signups from our website. However, no data from MailChimp appears to be showing up in the plugin.

For example, in the Newsletter form, no information on tags appears. When I try to create a new form, no lists appear for me to choose from (and we currently have 5 lists).

I am wondering if I need a new API key? Thoughts?

    Hi @hdinc888,

I’ve reviewed the form on your website and I don’t believe it is working. Every time I submit the form it returns an error. The error message seems to indicate that AJAX is either unavailable or not accessible… This usually points to a problem with a security plugin like WordFence. Are you using a security plugin?

Likewise, there might be something on your website blocking access to MailChimp’s API. If our plugin can’t communicate with MailChimp, then you won’t see any lists or be able to create new forms.

You may want to review your plugins and/or talk to your server team to see what’s blocking our plugin’s communication with MailChimp.

    Let me know.

    Thank you,
    Kevin.

We do use WordFence as our security plugin. Should I start there or should I contact our server team first?

    Thank you, Kevin!

    Hi Caitlin,

You should start with WordFence. I am not too familiar with WordFence but I believe there is a section where AJAX calls can be turned on/off or at least filtered. Can you look for that section? Can you try turning AJAX on? If there is filtering, can you tell me what the filtering looks like? (e.g. can you allow a specific AJAX “action”, a specific JS file, etc.)

    Let me know.

    Thank you,
    Kevin.

    Hi Kevin,

I wasn’t able to find a spot where WordFence is blocking AJAX. I started a topic with WordFence but didn’t get an answer. Do you have any ideas? I am at a loss.

I found a lot of information on AJAX in the plug-in, but nothing about filtering or turning AJAX on and off.

    Thank you,

    Caitlin

    Hi Caitlin,

    Check out this article: https://givewp.com/documentation/core/frequent-troubleshooting-issues/admin-ajax-blocked/.

I think the section titled Whitelist admin-ajax.php is the important one, although there are other suggestions in the article too.

Let me know if that helps.

    Thank you,
    Kevin.

    Hi Kevin,

I think that worked! I just added an email to the mailing list through the form, so the form should be working again.

I also see data when I try to create a new form now.

Thank you so much for your help!
