• I’ve just moved my blog with many posts from one hoster to another and the Permalinks now all have ‘index.php’ at the beginning. Updating Peramlinks options don’t help. In addition to being slightly less pretty, this also means that all the incoming links to my blog are now wrong.

It turns out unlike the last hoster, the new hoster (Register.com) has disabled mod-rewrite and won’t re-enable it.

Is there any other way of rescuing my original permalink sans ‘index.php’ without mod-rewrite? Or should I move hosts again?

  • Without mod-rewrite you won’t be able to use permalinks. End of story. Move hosts.

    Damn.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for WP friendly hosters? I’ve just spent the last week moving to this host and getting thingss to work and generally not bathing or eating and I’d rather not make the same mistake again….

I have c.20GB transfers a month at the mo and climbing – which was too much for my last hoster, 34SP.com.

Have a look here for some recommended hosts.
