No Index at homepage due to woocommerce

    Hi,

    I’ve been trying to solve this problem for months now, but no success. It appears that woocommerce is responsible for a noindex on our homepage. Ive recently added some products to the homepage, but also without the shop it appears only on the homepage. Not at other pages or at shopping pages.

    My hosting partner tried several solutions that were offered here, but no succes. Can anybody help a girl out?

    Hi @hetrijkvandekeizer,

    Thanks for sending over your system status.

    WooCommerce does not add “noindex” to the homepage, so this is added probably by one of your plugins. I’m thinking specifically of Yoast SEO. Can you temporarily disable that plugin and check again?

    Ideally, you’d want to perform a full conflict test to see if a plugin or the theme activated on your site is causing this behavior – https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/.

    Also, make sure that the “Search engine visibility” under WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Reading is disabled.

    Hi Mirko,

    I’ve been through all these tests with YOAST and Enfold as well.

    It is the woocommerce. When I deactivate yoast, the problem still exists. I deactivated all plugins and switched them on one by one. No index comes with the woocommerce plugin. When I switch it off, it’s gone.

    So where does it go wrong…

    Thanks you, not fully recovered yet, but getting there.

    I’ve been through the yoast forum already. Yoast is not the problem. The problem is woocommerce, but we just cant seem to find where it goes wrong.

    Hi there,

    We’re not seeing noindex in our test sites running on a default installation of WordPress, WooCommerce, and the Storefront theme so we’re not able to replicate what you’re describing.

    The noindex is on the homepage and is gone when woocommerce is off. It affects our ceo massively so it needs to go. ??

    @hetrijkvandekeizer Seems to have found a solution here that seems to be related to Yoast and WooCommerce.

    Like @hetrijkvandekeizer we’ve also gone thru 3 days trying to find why we get:

    We found that disabling all plugins, gives us:
    <meta name='robots' content='max-image-preview:large' />

    Then enabling only WooCommerce:
    <meta name='robots' content='max-image-preview:large, noindex, follow' />

    Is there a left over setting from Yoast that Woocommerce reacts to? While we’ve used Yoast in the past we’ve moved to Rankmath for several years and using Hello Elementor as theme.

    /woocommerce/includes/wc-template-functions.php has code involving the $robots directives.

    We’ve tried:
    WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Reading is disabled.
    Snippets in functions.php
    Disabling RankMath and other plugins
    DB setting: blog_public

    Anyone who is having this issue will want to check if they’ve accidentally set their homepage as one of the default WooCommerce pages (Cart, Checkout and My Account). These pages are given the noindex tag on purpose. You can check this in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced tab. Unsetting it will resolve the problem.
