No images show on product-category page

My shop page: https://mysite.com/shop/
Shows 2 categores with images for each — this is what I want.

I have set up variable products .. with images for all variations.

When I select a category, apparrel in this case, I go to
https://mysite.com/product-category/apparel/

When I get to this page, product results are shown with price, name, but NO IMAGES.
Below each product result, there is “Select Options” text.

When I select a product (or the “Select Options” text, I go to https://mysite.com/product/myproductname/
On this page I see a product image, when I select a variation, that variation’s image is shown.

Settings for Category: Apparel category has an image
The APPAREL check-box is checked for the product.
Settings for my variable products
Attribute: Size, Variations: medium, large … etc. IMAGE used for each variation.

What am I missing … thanks for your help.
