  • Have you checked file permissions?

Using an outdated version of WP is a MAJOR security risk – not a good idea.

Every image that should be in /wp-admin/images throws a 403 forbidden error, yet the directory is exposed to browsing.

It appears that the only thing visible in that directory is a folder named “screenshots” – which, by the way is not part of WordPress. If the images were truly missing, (and because you aren’t protecting your directories from casual browsing) I would think a 404 error would pop up instead.

I’m also seeing 403 (forbidden) error on images located in your uploads directory. The 2011 and 2013 folders are visible, but not the content. I don’t seem to be able to access any of the default WordPress images. They all 403.

This is just a wild guess, but is it possible that you’ve set hot link protection from your control panel, and it’s accidentally blocking all images on your site?

[edit] ..oops – I’m in error on one point: there is indeed a “screenshots” directory in /wp-admin/images by default. I was confusing it with /wp-includes directory.

I added the subdomain to hotlink protection and it seemed to have worked so far. I will update later to make sure it is still working correctly when i update it to the current wordpress version.

I appreciate the help and sorry for the duplicate submissions.
