I installed WordPress on a PC which is in my LAN and when I try to access the page from another PC (also connected to the LAN), the browser only displays the TEXT of wordpress home page and no extra layout formatting is there. Things like background images, colours, and text FORMATTING are missing and only just PLAIN text with hyperlinks are visible. Also the hyperlinks point to pages that are in the “localhost”, so clicking on them from a PC which is not hosting wordpress on my LAN would not display any page and would give a “Cannot Find Page” error.

Then I thought that maybe since I’m installing WP on a LAN the DB host name should be given as the name of the PC of which I’m hosting the MySQL server in, and changed it accordingly by specifing ‘REXT12’ (which is my Host name for that PC) for the DB Host name in wp-config.php. But then I cannot even access the home page of WP (from either a remote machine or the localhost). It gives an error saying that WP is unable to connect to the Database, and that the user name, password may be incorrect or the DB server may be down. But neither is…

You should be using the IP assigned to the server on your LAN as your WordPress and Blog address URLs (Options > General), and not localhost or 127.0.0.1.

Have a look over this, you need to change to url to point to either the ip address or the hostname of the computer. If you want it accessible over the internet then you need to have it set to the domain name that is pointing to the server.
