To add some detail: I’m using WebMatrix 3 on a Windows 7 PC to develop the site. The theme is Tesseract, by Tyler Moore, and I’m following his step-by-step video – but where he gets Google fonts, I don’t. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin and adding the API key.

    Can anybody help?

    Hi Mike,
Follow these instructions and you should be good. Cheers

Thanks Sunny, but as you can see from my post I’ve already acquired and pasted in the Google API key. Anyway, I’ve worked round the problem by including my chosen Google fonts in the CSS. However, that doesn’t explain why the plugin didn’t work. Perhaps it’s my server configuration?

I’m having the exact same issue. I have a Google API key which is installed correctly (the plugin is telling me it’s valid) and have created a custom control… but when I go to edit it (or customize any of the other existing controls) I only see the Standard Fonts… the Google set, as seen in the video, is missing.

same problem here. There is no Google Fonts showing in the dropdown option.

    Hi everyone,
If you have followed the instructions and it still isn’t working email me your api key and a link to your website to [email protected] and I’ll look out for it. Cheers

I have exactly the same problem here.

No Google Fonts are shown, only the – Theme Default – Standard Web Fonts.

My environment: WordPress 4.3, Theme: Bloggo

My issue was solved by double-checking my API key for spaces that were inserted when I copied and pasted…

In my case, pasting in my API key added a space before AND after… when I removed these spaces, everything worked & fonts were showing.

NOTE: the plugin DID tell me the API Key was VALID even with the spaces: however, with the spaces, no Google fonts. Remove the spaces, all fonts show up!

I double-checked ist, my API key has no spaces before or after.

Is the API mandatory to get the plugin started? I followed all steps in the Vimeo video and I understood adding the API key is optional.

But anyway, it doesn’t work also with the API entered.

Found it! I had to activate (not only generate) the API key under https://console.developers.google.com first, then it worked out.

But again: Is the API key mandatory?

    Hi,

This plugin works on the majority or WordPress installations without the need of an API key, however some server configurations prevent the plugin from reading the local fonts file bundled with the plugin. Either way I recommend taking the time to get an API key as it enables Automatic Background font updates in the Easy Google Fonts plugin.

In the next version I’ll automatically remove any spaces when the api key is saved. Cheers

Thank you, josellerena! That solved it for me as well.
