• I’m trying to change the button text on some plugins (Lifter LMS to be exact) simply english to english, but I cannot find current videos that show the newest Loco Translate dashboard. They all show the old dashboard. Even the Lifter LMS video is not the same.

So what I see on my dashboard (Home, Themes, Plugins, WordPress, Languages, Settings), I click on Plugins, and then click my plugin. I see Overview, Setup, and Advanced.
It shows No translations found for “lifterlms”. So at this point I don’t know which steps to take.
If I click on Languages, then English, I see Lifter LMS. I click that, but then I see two warnings:
Warning: This is NOT a translation file. Manual editing of source strings is not recommended.
Notice: Changes to this file may be overwritten or deleted when you update WordPress
But that’s where I see what I would normally expect: The Source Text, etc…

Can anyone tell me where a good source of the correct way to use this?
Like I said, all the videos I’ve found are older and do not show the same dashboard as what I see.

This is NOT a translation file. Manual editing of source strings is not recommended

It sounds to me like the file you call the English file is intended to be the translations template file (defining the source strings) but is named wrongly. To understand this see https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/manual/templates in particular the paragraph titled “Selecting an alternative template”.

To correct the problem, you can open the bundle configuration (Advanced tab) and add the relative path to the “English” file in the template field. Then any new language files you add will take their source strings from that. See the config documentation https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/manual/bundle-config

Changes to this file may be overwritten or deleted when you update WordPress

That’s because it’s inside the plugin folder and will be replaced every time you update the plugin. Read about unsafe file locations: https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/faqs/files-deleted

No good NEW video or start guide?

Your original post has been edited but I can see you were originally lamenting the absence a beginner tutorial video. The documentation I provide is linked from here. I don’t have the time or resources to make videos, nor record new ones them every time the plugin changes. (You saw for yourself how videos become outdated). Furthermore there is no one single use case. Not everyone’s route into using this plugin is the same, and not everyone’s problems are the same. If you want a video that shows a specific journey for your LMS plugin, then I suggest you lean on the LMS community for such a thing.

Thanks for you help, Tim! I’ve used this before and seemed to have a much easier time just opening it and making the changes. Yes, I’m lamenting the fact the Lifter LMS plugin developer did not update their video, and any other related videos that have been made by others, because there are more steps than previously used.

I did ask for a good source for a guide, not requesting video specifically as I would not expect that of anyone. Loco Translate gets recommended quite frequently to be used to change text on buttons, etc… and that so far is the only way I’ve ever used it. And, to be honest, your own documentation does not cover that… not that I’ve been able to find. Your Beginner’s Guide covers translating themes, and I see that I need to use a custom location. So that gets me closer to what I need, and stay away from the warnings.
