• I have this persistent message in my dashboard that says –

“The Flickr Photostream plugin is outdated! Install the new version Flickr Justified Gallery. The settings will be automatically migrated.

With the creation of the new project we have lost all the download stats and ratings. Please consider to rate the new project to let it grow.”

And it cannot be dismissed. So, tried to install this new plugin and got a fatal error. Tried disabling Photostream plugin and re-installing Flickr Justified Gallery again and it failed. Bottom line – can’t install the thing and can’t dismiss the message. Re-enabled Photostream and it works perfectly. I don’t care about stats and ratings.

  • The message should have a dismiss box. The plugin itself should show that there is an update available.

I agree, it should have a dismiss message but it doesn’t. I applied the latest update this morning to Photostream and the message persists with no way of dismissing. Took a print screen which I can send you, no way of attaching to this message.

The message is there to notify you that you must deactivate/uninstall the old plugin; it’s the only way to disable it, it’s there for this reason.

Now the new plugin can be installed with the old one active, but you should uninstall the old one.

    Hi Miro, ??

The message is there to notify you that you must deactivate/uninstall the old plugin; it’s the only way to disable it, it’s there for this reason.

With regard to notifications, once the wordpress administrator has seen it, they probably don’t need a constant reminder of this on top of every administration page. Just a notifier on the ‘Installed Plugins‘ page and on that plugin’s settings page would suffice.

If you made it so an administrator can click on a dismiss button, then the admin would have acknowledged that they are aware that there is an upgrade available – and they will install it when they get around to it. ??

Non-closeable notifications by a plugin can feel like constant harrassment and is the quickest way I know of to get a plugin deleted from my installation. I’ll even keep a broken plugin that is being repaired over one that pesters me to do something I’m not ready to yet (or in the case we had just recently, was unable to do).

I like to keep my administration pages clean. I won’t upgrade because the developer tells me to – I’ll upgrade if I can see a benefit in doing so.

Thanks, and please keep up the great work! ??

I have to say I agree with what’s already been said. I absolutely love this plugin it was the first of it’s kind after having used “Awesome Flickr Gallery” for ages that was able to fulfill my requirements.
However as Flickr Upgraded to the use of Collections rather than just sets I have upgraded to the Premium plugin “Justified Image Gallery” which supports several platforms like Flickr, Picasa, NextGen etc.
I still mainly use the Flickr part as it’s just my favorite way of sorting and uploading my images on a unlimeted platform. As I’m a pro member, but I only have this plugin still installed for the Galleries I had not yet changed the shortcode from to the new plugin format. Therefor I don’t really care if it’s updated or not, as long as it’s working it’s fine.
That constant reminder though is very annoying and clouds up my admin pages, it makes me on edge and I’ve even considered just deleting this plugin to get rid of the message. I honestly think you should use a Dismiss button to give people the chance to get rid of it without getting rid of the plugin.

Furthermore I think you did an awesome job at your plugin and I’ve used it with pleasure for nearly 3 years now. I would definately recommend it to other wordpress users to combine their wordpress with Flickr galleries.
