    Hi,

I noticed that my posts don’t have a default / generated meta description.

The og:description is generated from the post’s text just fine, but NOT the meta description.

There’s also a Yoast message in the source code saying “this page has no meta description…”

I did not specify any meta description template since I was expecting the plugin to automatically generate a meta description from the post’s text. Is this not the case?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello @janvitos

Thanks for reaching out about your meta description. Usually, the meta description field for a post will be blank unless you fill it in. That’s why you get the notice in the page source. The plugin doesn’t generate a meta description.

Once you fill in the meta description, the notice will disappear. In the alternative, if your theme allows excerpts, you can use the %%excerpts%% snippet variable in the meta description field. The Yoast SEO plugin will pull the contents of the excerpt to use as a meta description.
