    Hello,

I have setup up the Site Kit properly, but when I try to set up Google Analytics, it only lists my old Universal Analytics property, which is not being used since last year.

I have already reset the plugin, and set it up from the beginning, but still nothing.

    Any ideas?

    Hi @developit,

    Thanks for getting in touch!

In order to set up a GA4 property on a site that already has UA connected, you’re correct that you’ll need to disconnect Analytics in Site Kit and go through the setup process again. Can you verify that these are the steps that you used?

    1. Go to Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Analytics > Disconnect
    2. Once disconnected, go to Site Kit > Settings > Connect More Services > Analytics
    3. Select your Analytics account from the dropdown menu
    4. When you click the Property dropdown, you should see your UA property listed. If you already have set up a GA4 property in your Analytics account, it should appear in this dropdown menu, as well. There should also be an option to Set up a new property –?screenshot
    5. If you select the new property option, a new blue bar should appear that says “A Google Analytics property will also be created.” – screenshot
    6. Complete the setup process and either the property will be created or, if you selected a GA4 property that has already been setup, it will be added to your site via Site Kit

More info about GA4 in Site Kit is available here. Note that at this time, GA4 data does not appear in Site Kit dashboards.

Let me know if you’ve already gone through this process and are having trouble, or if you have any other questions.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

and thank you for the quick response. I did all the steps, as you mentioned, but I only get the UA property, and I don’t want to set up a new GA4 property.

    What else can I do?

    Hi @developit,

When you mention you only get the UA property listed are you seeing any additional notices, such as a notice that your site is already using an Analytics property (which your Google account doesn’t have access to)? If so let me know of any notice or error message you do see. It may be a case whereby you’ll need to remove the existing connected property, which may have been added manually, via another plugin or via your theme.

If you don’t see any error message or notice but the issue is you don’t see all your Google Analytics accounts or properties in the dropdown fields during setup this could be related to the Google account which you’ve used to setup Site Kit.

Let me know anyway and we’d be happy to assist. Once we know the cause we can assist you with your preferred property setup. And you’ll be happy to know there is also no need for Site Kit to insert a GA4 property for you if you prefer not to use one.

    Hi @jamesosborne,

I do not get any notices, or any error messages on the console (using F12). The dropdown menu only contains the UA property and the option to create a new one, which I don’t want to.

Also, I am using a plugin to hide wp-admin, and I get a bug with the redirection upon successful setup. I assume there is an option that has stored my site URL with the wp-admin page in it. Where can I change it to the current one?

Thanks for the update. In that case did you setup Site Kit using the same Google account which is associated with your preferred UA property? You can see the Google account which you used to setup Site Kit by looking at the top right of your primary Site Kit dashboard. You can disconnect Site Kit from that Google account if you prefer in order to setup the plugin and Google Analytics with another Google account.

We’d be happy to look into this for you. If you want to open a separate support topic for this we can investigate this specifically.

Thank you for the response. Both the GA4 and the UA properties, are associated with the account that I have used in order to setup the Google Site Kit.

Thanks for the update. In that case that’s very odd that you can see your preferred account and property when setting up Analytics within Site Kit. Would it be possible that you share the following and I can discuss this with the team?

    1. A screenshot of your Google Analytics account showing your preferred account and property which you wish to use with Site Kit (example). This could also preferably show the connected Google account.
    2. A screenshot of your Analytics setup page, highlighting what you see in the account and property dropdowns (example)

As an alternative you can use a video or screen recording to show the above, using a service such as recordit.co or Loom. You can share the above using our escalations form.

Note also that if you’re using an older version of Site Kit or if you didn’t disconnect the Analytics module and connect once more following the steps above you won’t see the GA4 dropdown below:

Let me know if you need any additional information on the above.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
