• I am sure people may’ve asked this question before, but I want to know why there’s no font selection list in one’s post/page editor? I find this absolutely strange!

So what do I do if I want to’ve different fonts in my page/post?

samboll, mind explain why WP didn’t implement a basic thing like a font-list? Why? This is indeed bizarre!

The reason would likely be that every computer has a different set of fonts installed, and differing browser.

Font’s are generally controlled by the stylesheet, it’s down to the person writing the theme to determine what font’s to use.. and even then there’s no guarantee a user will have the font you’ve set to show, in which case it will just default to something else.

The alternative to that problem is to use a script/plugin that renders fonts as images (or something similar), avoiding the need for users to have the font installed locally on their computer.

t31os_, what about the basic Windows fonts? They exists everywhere! How can you forget that? To be precise, how can WP developers forget that?

Therefore, I still think this is Bizarre!

There are only a handful of fonts that are present on “all” systems, windows, mac, and unix/linux systems don’t all use the same font set, though there are obviously some fonts that are common across all of them, but that’s not to say they all render them the same.

Here’s a useful resource for font information.

They also have this very handy tool for setting up font declarations here, it will score your font stack at the end (in a manner of speaking), so you can see how likely the fonts are to be rendered for each operating system.
