No flag in drop down menu

  • Hello,

    I’ve set the menu item to show flags with short language names.

    Unfortunately the flag is only shown for the currently active language, but not for the available language in the drop down menu:

    Is there a way to fix this?

    We deeply apologize for the delayed response.
    There has been a great load on our support team in the past few days, but such a long reply time is very uncommon.

    Since this looks a lot like a conflict with some other code, the first/next recommended step is the conflict test (ideally in a staging environment):

    ??*Briefly* disable all other plugins and enable the default Twenty Twenty theme. Please also disable all add-ons. If this fixes the problem, as it probably will, enable everything one by one, checking each time to see when the problem returns.

    Please let us know when you find the conflict so that we can take a look and see what we can do about it.

    I did some further testing with plugins, different browsers and operating systems. Turns out it seems to have something to do with macOS.

    macOS Safari -> no flag
    macOS Chrome -> no flag
    macOS Firefox -> no flag
    Windows Firefox -> flag
    Windows Edge -> flag

    I can even get a flag to show on macOS when I hover over the language picker immediately after reloading the page. If I wait until the page is fully loaded the flag is not there.

    Like if there is a macOS wide system preference, that prevents emojis from being shown in browsers or something. Very strange …
