Also, the section “Hiding Members” is commented out in the admin settings page. (members-list/view/settings.php) Was this intentional?

Becky, the latest version of the plugin no longer has a default list. You need to create a list to display members and add shortcode that specifies the list you wish displayed. This means the hide members functionality is no longer necessary because members are added to specific lists and not a default list.
