When a member makes a payment to one of our membership levels, the payment goes through but on the PayPal invcoice emailed through the transaction description is blank. We use PayPal for multiple transactions, not just membership and similar amounts so this is unhelpful.
How can we force PayPal to note this as a Membership payment?

    Hi,

Are you using PayPal Invoicing system services or are you using a plugin for your invoices?

    Thank you

We are simply using the PayPal button in SWPM and Pay Pal emails a receipt but the description is blank

Hi, please check the following documentation wordpress-simple-membership-email-settings. Let me know if this helps you.

    Thank you

I’m afraid those settings have nothing to do with the problem. They don’t affect the passing of transaction information to PayPal. They are related to the emails seen by the customer.

    Hi,

As per my question above. Your invoice is coming from PayPal system. In that case our plugin currently does not have an integration with PayPal invoice system.

I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your issue.

    Thank you

Thank you for acknowledging the shortcoming in SWPM which is not present in other plugins (our Event management plugin manages to communicate data from the WP interface to PayPal for example). As a purchaser of two of your paid add-ons we are now committed to SWPM so I hope that the defect can be rectified soon. In the meantime, if the developers could ensure this is noted in the documentation it would be helpful.

    Dear Mr
Further to my last and relevant to my thread, we offer annual one off and recurring membership payments. Ww have just received our first recurring membership payment. When using the PayPal subscription button type (for the recurring payment) the full data set is received by PayPal. When using the Smart button type, no information (other than the amount) reaches PayPal.
So clearly the plugin talks to PayPal, but the interface with the Smart Payment button is much less capable than the subscription button. Perhaps this might aid the developers in achieving a swift resolution. Many thanks .

The value you use in the “Button Title” field of the payment button should go to the item name. When you view a transaction in PayPal, it will show that name so you can identify what that payment is for.

What value are you using in the “Button Title” field of this payment button?

I am using a descriptive title which does NOT get to PayPal…hence the problem.
The subscription button however sends far more information than just the title.
The difference between the way the plugin handles the PayPal subscription button and the PayPal smart button could not be more stark

There are some limitations with the PayPal API in terms of how many characters can be sent to PayPal for the item name. Also, the PayPal smart payment buttons have completely different API. We don’t make these decisions in terms of which API can do what and what the limitations are, PayPal make those decisions. We try to code things the best way we can so it can fit with our plugin’s core functionality. Try a different plugin and see if that has other options that will work better for you.

Had I known this before purchasing the add-ons for yours, perhaps we would have done. As a non profit, however, we don’t have the luxury of profit enabling us to splash the cash on multiple plugins to find the best… We will just have to live with it…

WordPress only allows discussion of the free plugin on this forum. Please use the contact form to get in touch with us and we can organize a refund for you. That won’t be an issue.

Thanks for the fair offer but we have built our revamped website (launched on Monday) largely around your plugin and the cost of a redesign makes that uneconomic. As I said..we will have to live with it..
