no cookie redirects to wp-login.php

Hi-

I installed multisite yesterday with sub domains. I thought everything was working correctly until today, when someone else pointed out when they type in the main site URL, it goes to https://www.site.com/wp-login.php with the message that registration has been disabled.

What I don’t understand is why it’s not displaying the home page. I did use the domain mapping plugin and thought I had everything set up correctly. The site was displaying normally for me.

Interestingly, when I do log into the admin section, then log out, it takes me to the correct home page. I cleared out my browsing history (in chrome, FF and IE) and tried going to the main URL and again, it took me to the wp-login.php page.

Any ideas on what I messed up here? Thanks for your time.
