No closing HTML tag. Please help, i'm going crazy!

Can somebody point me to the right direction to fix this problem? I get the following debug output:
<!– Page not cached by WP Super Cache. No closing HTML tag. Check your theme. –>
right below the </html> tag. I tried reinstalling the plugin, I tried deactivating all the other plugins, I defaulted my vps configuration, and now i just don’t know anymore what to do. The strange thing is, no cache plugin is working at all, i tried all of them – without any luck. But a few weeks ago, they were all working. SOmething must have changed, but i have no idea what. If i don’t find a solution i need to rebuild my website from scratch. this will take about 2 days, so please help me to solve this problem.
