Hello, I’ve been trying to add a video hosted by Vimeo to my website but when I do it doesn’t have the captions that it has while viewed directly on Vimeo. I saw that the CC button for adding captions doesn’t work for Vimeo so I was wondering if I was doing something wrong.

    Thank you,

    Caden

    Hello @cadenr

The CC button for adding captions is available only for self-hosted videos and those hosted on Bunny.net. For videos hosted on platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo, the CC button will not work due to limitations imposed by their terms of service.

I hope the information will help. Feel free to get back to us if you have any other queries.

Does that mean closed captions aren’t supported at all for videos hosted through Vimeo or that they are available but my problem is on the Vimeo side?

@cadenr Can you please share the Vimeo link which has the captions so we can test it further?

If the captions are already embedded and displayed in the Vimeo videos, it should be displayed when you add it to Presto Vimeo Video block.

I have tested a Sample Vimeo video with subtitles, and I can see the captions.

@prajnajogi The video you linked has baked in subtitles but it doesn’t have any closed captions which is what I want.

For example this is the video that I want on my site. When I watch it in Vimeo I can see the closed captions and toggle them on and off but when I import it into wordpress it doesn’t show the closed captions anymore and it doesn’t have the option to import them since its not self hosted or through bunny.net.

@cadenr Thank you for getting back to us with the Vimeo video link.

Unfortunately, the closed captions do not carry over when importing videos from platforms like Vimeo. The option to add closed captions directly to the Presto Player is currently limited to self-hosted videos and those hosted on Bunny.net. For Vimeo, it is impossible due to the limitations imposed by their terms of service.

We understand that this may not be the ideal solution for your current situation, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything else, please feel free to reach out to us.

@prajnajogi Thank you for the help, I guess I’ll just have to look at alternative hosting options.

@cadenr I understand the reason for your choice. The inability to import closed captions from Vimeo is not something under Presto Player’s control due to the limitations imposed by terms of service.

If you need any assistance or have further questions regarding Presto Player or anything else, feel free to reach out anytime. We’re here to help!
