Hi. A few weeks ago WP2DB simply stopped working on my blog – unfortunately I can’t remember when exactly so I don’t know if a particular WP2DB or WP update was responsible. Ever since I get the “no backup activity” error message. Here’s a recent Backup Log:

18:23:18: There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.
18:17:18: There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.
18:12:15: Your time limit is 30 seconds and your memory limit is 128M
18:12:15: Backup started on Friday May 17, 2013.

I have tried following the advice in your sticky thread about wp-cron and made the necessary changes in the .htaccess file (with the help of my hosting company). However it’s still not working. I don’t think a plugin clash or the WP setup are an issue either. I’ve also tried deactivating/reactivating the plugin as well as deleting it and reinstalling it, but to no avail. Can you please advise? I’ve just updated to version 1.5.1 of WP2DB and the above log is from an attempted backup run on this version. Thanks in advance.

    Gday Steve,

    Thanks for expressing your issues.

Aside from the issues that I regretfully introduced in version 1.5 and 1.5.1 that have hopefully been fixed now. There are a couple of things that can cause this activity warning to show up all the time.

One of them is the PHP time limit that, in your case, is 30 seconds. The plugin does it’s best to try and increase this limit, however some hosts do not allow scripts to do so, meaning you are stuck with 30 seconds.

That message you ares seeing is the plugin attempting to work around this time limit by detecting if there has been no activity for 5 minutes and restarting the backup.

Unfortunately there is not too much uploading that can be done in 30 seconds which means that your backup will take a very long time to complet for the first time.

    Cheers,
    Mikey

Hi Mikey, thanks for getting back to me – appreciate it. I passed this info on to my hosting company and they “updated the PHP max execution time and memory limit” for me. However it’s still not worked. Here’s the latest log:

18:35:03: There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.
18:30:02: There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.
18:25:01: Your time limit is 10000 seconds and your memory limit is 256M
18:25:01: Backup started on Saturday May 18, 2013.

I’ve asked them if there’s anything further they can do at their end. Any thoughts on anything you might be able to do on your end?

    Many thanks,

    Steve

    Gday Steve,

That is plenty of time so it should work. Any chance I can take a look at your blog?

If so shoot an email to support@wpb2d.com.

    great plugin, thanks

i have a question though, does everytime a backup starts copy the whole thing or just the new changes ?

    thank you
