• Hi, I just spent three hours writing a post. I then clicked Publish. WP asked politely Are you sure you want to do this. Sure. But what WP then published was a version I started with, just a few lines. Perhaps I clicked Draftat that point when I was starting. Or perhaps the last autosave was done back then. Most likely the latter because I foolishly tend(ed) to trust the autosave feature. Aaaaargh.

The long text is not saved as a draft as far as I can tell. At least it says nothing about any revisions at the right hand side. If I add a new post WP starts autosaving in a normal manner. It looks like a bug.

Anyway, is it possible that the draft nevertheless exists or is it gone from the database for sure? How do I check?

  • Most likely you have lost what you did. The warning that came up sounds like you refreshed the page instead of clicked publish as the publish button shouldn’t throw an error like that. You get that error plenty of times when you are either refreshing the page or trying to go to a new page without actually submitting your changes. My guess is that you unfortunately did lose 3 hours of your life :(. Sorry!

Optimistically I think that the next version will be better. But I still think it’s more likely a bug because I don’t understand how I could have refreshed while trying to hit the Publish button. And, anyway, refreshing seems to say: This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved. And where did all those revisions worth three hours go?

Oh well, I’ll bang my head against a wall for a while and then carry on.
