• hi,

i decided to host my blog by using bluehost services. i was able to install wordpress 2.2.2 (that is what is written on the fantastico deluxe in the bluehost).

now i am trying to enhance my blog by adding some plugins and new theme.

i was able to upload and use my new theme but the plugins do not appear in my plugins directory even it i have already uploaded them.

moreso, i am trying to activate my akismet but i am unable to find my api keys on my profile

    please help.
    1. where can i see my API keys
    2. why does the plugins does not appear on my wordpress even if i already click the plugin tab. only shown is the akismet and hello dolly
    3. is there a connection between not being able to activate the akismet with not seeing the plugins that i have uploaded?

    thanks.

  • Steps to getting an API key –

    1. Get a WordPress.com account
    2. Go to My Account (seen on the top left) -> Global Dashboard -> Profile.
    3. You can see your API keys listed on the top of that page. It would say something like –

Your WordPress.com API key is: XXXXXX. Don’t share your API key, it’s like a password.

As far as your second question is concerned, make sure that there are no sub-directories. WP does not like it if you have plugins/$plugin/$plugin – it just needs it to be plugins/$plugin. More often than not, I’ve found that to be the source of the problem.

And no, it is unlikely that there is a connection between those plugins and Askimet.

    thanks metlin for your reply.

but if you reread my post you can see that i have pointed out that i do not have any api key on my profile.

i would have not been posting this if i have.

What metlin is saying is, go to your AKISMET PAGE and CLICK THE LINK TO TAKE YOU TO https://www.wordpress.com/ . There, you will sign up for an account and wordpress.com will send you an API key to put into your Akismet. Okay?
