I recently installed the Membership 2 plugin. I have configured it with a new membership and created the protected content. I have found that the admin users that existed prior to installing the plugin do not have access to the protected content. I am also unable to add the admin users to the membership manually.

It’s as if the plugin does not recognize the pre-existing users.

This is unexpected behavior. I have a copy installed on another site I was using for evaluation and these feature function as expected. So something is wrong here. I haven’t been able to find it.

Any suggestions of anything else I should check?

UPDATE: It looks like I had an incorrect link in my navigation. I had a www. where there shouldn’t have been. I.e. I had https://www.example.com/products/ where it should have been https://example.com/products/

However, it seems to me that, with an incorrect link, it should have directed me to a 404 page, not a ‘this is protected content, sorry’ page.

Is there still possibly something broken that needs attention?

    Hi @webdon,

    Apologies for long delay here.

Glad to hear you figured the first issue, can you tell me a bit more about the second one, is it happening with logged-out users as well?

Do you perhaps have Special Pages add-on enabled and are you protecting 404 pages?

    Cheers,
    Predrag

    Hi Predrag,

Thank you for the follow up. I have not been able to duplicate the problem for logged-out users. No, the Special Pages add-on is not enabled. In fact I don’t have ANY add-ons enabled at the moment.

It does not seem to be causing any useability issues at the moment. My primary concern is if it is not the expected behavior is it a symptom of something else wrong that could be a problem down the road as we begin to use more and more functionality.

    Hello @webdon,

That can be plugin/theme conflict – to exclude that possibility check site with only Membership 2 plugin enabled and default WordPress theme. See if it still redirects 404 error pages to Protect Content page.Let us know about the results.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
