Nivo Slider Won't Use Browser Cache on iOS

With browsers on iOS devices (iPhone/iPad), the Nivo Slider pulls every image change from the web server–it never uses the browser cache. The result on a slow–e.g., cellular–connection is erratic performance and excessive data usage.
I was able to work around this by switching to the the Flex Slider, which doesn’t have the problem.
The problem only occurs on iOS. It doesn’t occur with browsers on a computer, or with Android browsers.
