    Hi!

During automatic subscription of WordPress users to the mailing list (after their registration) the users are added to MailPoet mailing list.

Unfortunately, MailPoet saves user’s nickname created during registration into the field first name in the mailing list. I expect that the first name provided during registration (and saved in the field first name for WordPress user) should be carried on to the field first name in the MailPoet mailing list.

This sounds like a bug. Isn’t it?

    Thanks,
    Sofia

    Hi there @affiliatedachs,

In the regular WordPress user registration page, it just asks for a username and email address — no First Name, Last Name, or nickname.

I tried registering a regular non-admin user, then logged into the account to edit my profile and set a First Name, Last Name, and Nickname:

However, when I checked the subscriber in MailPoet, I saw that it used the First and Last name as expected (not the nickname as you described):

Are you using any other type of account/membership registration plugin? Or following different steps from above?

If you have steps for reproducing the issue you were seeing, please let us know. Thank you!

Yes, I use LifterLMS registration. LifterLMS’s form provides a field for the first name during the registration. This first name is saved in WordPress user profile as first name. No issues there. In MailPoet the nickname is saved instead of first name.

If I just open a WordPress user profile for edit and resave it without changes, then first name is updated correctly in MailPoet. But I have to open and save the user manually to have the first name updated.

Just for your information: the same behavior with plugin User Registration.

    – I have added a field “first name” to the registration form.
    – The first name is saved in WordPress user profile without issues.
    – The user is added to the MailPoet WordPress User list with his nickname instead of first name.
    – Just resaving the WordPress user without any change updates the first name in MailPoet.

It looks like a general issue with your plugin rather than the way the user is registered. MailPoet saves nickname into “first name” field of list subscribers.

        Hey again!

While we can look at what might be going on, it does seem that the issue lies mainly with plugins that are modifying how user registration works in WordPress, as it works properly 100% of the time (in our experience) when using the default WordPress user registration method.

There is no field first name in default WordPress user registration method. ?? Thank you for investigating.

        >There is no field first name in default WordPress user registration method

This is correct, and the fact that when using a MailPoet form that includes those it works properly, or when using a WooCommerce order to create the customer/subscriber, it works properly seems to indicate that adding First Name / Nickname in the registration form in this way is causing the issue we are seeing.

We’re not able to replicate this outside of using a 3rd party plugin to modify how WordPress user registration works, so this isn’t something that we are going to prioritize working on at this time.
