• I have installed this plugin because it is simple to strip its ecommerce aspects. I just need a catalog.

Everything is displayed with functions so you have nothing to print_r and observe.
So I needed a little suggestion to show only first level of categories. They asked me to be a client first. I don’t know why, but I just didn’t like that greedy answer, mostly when you have a code maybe intentionally hard to understand and manipulate and also a hidden forum.

There are a lot of people willing to pay that are in a hurry, don’t know any coding etc, but for only one little line of code that I needed… shame! The previous 5 stars reviews seem to be from developers and their friends.

    Hi Adi,

Firstly if you’ve not seen the API docs, please have a look here: https://shopplugin.net/api/ – most things are documented well with examples. You’ll see that the structure isn’t intentionally hard to understand or work with, it’s just built with Classes and Objects the way any project of this size needs to be.

Have you posted a question on the wordpress support forum?. If you haven’t I would suggest that’s the first thing to do. I personally find that StackOverflow is a good place to get fast answers, provided you are willing to explain what you’ve already tried.

Hope you give Shopp another chance, I’ve been using it as a customer, as a helpdesker, and sometimes getting involved in fixing things for 4 years now and love it. If you want to get involved why not take a look at the Github repo where you’ll find lots of activity!

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Hi Adi,

Our API is actually one of our best features. We’ve put a lot of effort (perhaps more than any other WP e-commerce solution) into providing a robust, well documented API.

We use extensive unit testing to make sure it performs as expected through release cycles. Stylistically and by approach, it’s a bit different than most of the other e-commerce systems, but we also think this is because it’s better. The slight learning curve is worth it ??

We provide Shopp as a free download, but it simply isn’t possible for us to provide free support. Your support question, while free for you, would have cost Shopp money as techs are paid per ticket.

Greed is not the goal, but rather sustainability. We simply can’t afford to pay for support for customers who haven’t supported the project.

You are always welcome to post your questions in the WP support forums. We do our best to answer questions, but the responses won’t be as timely.

As Ben said, we hope you give us another chance!

    Kind regards,
    Clif

I work in a web agency, and recently we are making a lot of websites for small stores that don’t need an e-commerce function but only a catalog.
This plugin seemed the most clean and simple to use by an unexperienced end user.

I cannot use and promote in my company a plugin that I am terrified that we won’t be able to do the most basic things as listing only the first level of categories without needing support. And if we start to use it and the client inserts 400 products and later needs even the e-commerce function? Are we supposed to wait a few hours for a support guy every time for the most simple things, because this plugin cannot go viral keeped so tight, so the only support you get is from the home site only or by paying – and the developers of the plugin will gain only from those a few that have the courage to adventure in a tight usergroup.

I am really looking for a more opened alternative where I will have to pay in the end 300 dollars to get developer value support, not just for a simple line of code. Sorry!

@adicumpanasu You’re funny. How less would your customer pay, if you’re not able to integrate $300.- into your bill? You could write a catalog yourself WordPress is open source and you can find the source of Shopp on Github. No need to ask anybody anything, it’s all open. Maybe you’re time looking it up and understanding it is cheaper… Otherwise $300.- is worth spending even if it would be to find out that the product is not what you need. That’s just my opinion. No pin intended but sometimes “free” is too expensive. You’re rating seems to not rate the product itself, but rather your unwillingness to pay for support.
