When I installed your plugin, I received this message:
Because your server is running on nginx, our .htaccess file can’t protect your downloads.
Please add the following rules to your nginx config to disable direct file access:

I can probably figure out how to edit this file and place the code in there, but it would be helpful to understand the following:
    1) If I don’t change the code, what is the risk, what do you specifically mean that you can’t protect my downloads.
    2) If I do place this code in there, will it prevent my ability to offer downloads that may exist on old blog posts or on pages that I haven’t gotten to convert to work with your plugin’s shortcodes?

    Thanks

    Hello @brochite ,

    Thanks for reaching us.

Based on your questions, these are the following answers:
1 – The dlm_uploads folder is protected by the .htaccess rules in the sense that visitors can’t just go to a file situated in that folder and download it ( also won’t be able to log the download and give you reliable reports ). So, the risk consists of unwanted downloads and false reports.
2 – those rules only affect the dlm_uploads folder which was created by our plugin, so if you have downloads located in other sources/folders they won’t be affected.

    Hope this clears things up.

    Kind Regards!
    Razvan
