@liarooz – What are you looking for specifically with the idea “a preloadeder that can be tuned off”?

You can upload a folder of images then import them into NextGEN Gallery to be used with whatever display you choose.

Most any well-coded theme that follows standard WordPress best practices* for a theme should not have any issue running NextGEN Gallery.

Thank you for your quick reply.

What I meant was that with that number of images 350, any slider type I have looked at preloads the images which of course would make it much too slow. What I am looking for is a simple slideshow WP plugin where it just loads one slide after the other running automatically, that can be plugged into a theme easily with a short code. It seems your plugin does that?

    Thanks so much,
    Lia

@liarooz – I would recommend testing to see if it meets the speed you are looking for, provided the images are of reasonable size and well optimized for display across the web you may be fine but there are too many variables to guarantee it will not have a load impact on the site at 350 images (and I imagine growing?)

There is some amount of preloading / caching that we do implement with the idea of maintaining an overall performance level but this may be the issue you are trying to avoid.

It also depends on how you plan to implement the slideshow, it reads as though you want to use it as part of the theme versus post and/or page content.

It would be a simple page link to a page (not a post) within the theme. I am aiming for what you are showing here: https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/nextgen-pro/#gallery
but with the skin of the theme.

Yes, the images would be optimized 80-100kb and under, could be smaller if needed. Are ALL the images preloaded first or? I can imaging that people will only sit through perhaps the first 30-40 or so images. My client really wants this and she reports that people ‘love’ this feature on her old site.

Can I link to a folder and simply have it run randomly?

Happy to purchase the pro-version. Can you tell me difference between the two for my purpose? Would you be able to provide email support to implement into the theme via short code?

I very much appreciate your speedy replies.

P.S. I confirmed with the theme developer and he thought NextGen would work fine on the theme.
