I’m having an issue when I’m trying to add photos to my NextGen gallery for my WordPress webpage. I am able to create the gallery, however, when I try to add images to the gallery, the thumbnail does not show up in the manage gallery section – nor can I see any images once I save that gallery. I also tried to add an image to an EXISTING gallery in my site. I took it upon myself to DISABLE ALL of the current plugins in my site, and tried it again. Same issue. I RE-ACTIVATED the plugins, tried adding the gallery, same issue. (When I upload the images, I am seeing the percentage increase for them, so it appears they are uploading, however the never show up in the gallery)

I would appreciate any help anyone could offer.

@salcaps – When you deactivated all of your plugins did you also temporarily switch to a default WordPress Twenty series theme before reactivating NextGEN Gallery to test?

    Cais-
So per your request. I disabled EVERY plugin again – including NexGen plugin. I selected and installed a WordPress Twenty series theme page, activated it. Then re-activated the NG gallery plug-in. (DID NOT reactivate any other plugins) Same issue. Thumbnails/photos are not showing in the gallery. Also tried adding a photo to one of the existing galleries. No dice.

@salcaps – Thanks … sorry for all of this inconvenience.

Would you be able to share a link to your site, especially any non-working NextGEN Gallery display? There may be something in the page source to offer some additional clues.

    Thanks, again!

    Cais-
If you visit https://www.lightpainter.us, then go to (upper right) “PHOTOS”, click there and you will see a number of albums depicted. The last one “test” I created for you. That’s on image in a gallery that is not view-able. If I try to add that image into one of those other albums, the image is not view-able either. Also, I made sure that the sizing was below the min req, I tried everything I could think of….

@salcaps – From what I can tell the issues are all falling back to the image not being uploaded, are the permissions still correctly being inherited from the /wp-content/ folder so they are the equivalent of 0755 and 0644 respectively for folders and files?

    So Cais-

I had a good friend of mine, Cemal Ekin take a look at this and try ot help troubleshoot as well. Thought I would enter his test/finding here.

    Hi Sal,

The folder permissions appear to be fine in file manager. Just to make sure, I updated a plugin in WordPress which went fine; then I upgraded WordPress to 4.0 which also worked fine. That means the application, WordPress is able to write to those folders and replace other files. Otherwise, the updates would have failed without folder and file permissions being right. Then I refreshed the folder permissions in just the gallery folder to be on the safe side and tried to upload a file to an existing gallery which failed, despite the message indicating it was successful.

Next, using FTP I created a folder in gallery called dummy and uploaded several photographs in it. They uploaded fine via FTP. Then I switched to WordPress/Gallery/Add Gallery option and selected to Import Folder. I pointed to the new dummy folder and NGG imported them fine, I can see the thumbnails in the gallery and even edit the thumbnail successfully. This would indicate to me that NGG is able to create a thumbnails folder, add thumbnails to it, and later overwrite them there. I attempted to upload a new image to this new gallery but it failed.

These tests would point in the direction of folder permissions being correct. My money is still on NGG having some problem either in some instances or on some servers, like a Windows server.

@salcaps – there is most likely something specific to your server and/or settings being used in your server’s environment. Please thank @acekin for his troubleshooting but it may be best to send us a Bug Report (https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) with your site details including log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation so we can get a closer look at what is happening.

    Thanks!

I just wanted to follow up and make sure your received the information that you had the requested. I did create a ‘bug report’ to the link you sent me, and I did forward/posted all the UID and PW information to you there.

I spoke with Cemal…he was helping me try to troubleshoot. I forwarded your comments in your last followup to me…here was his response to your inquiry.

No I did not get a copy Sal. Tell him that your site is on a Windows server and the numeric file and folder permissions do not work on it. However, the file and folder permissions in the folder sc and below are appropriate, the application can create, write, and delete files as I verified in my message which you posted on the support forum.

I can email my hosting provider when I arrive home tonight…

but Cemal wanted me to remind that, that NextGen can write to the thumbnails folder.

@salcaps – Let’s carry on the conversation in one place for the time being … as is, I would suggest the Bug Report as that place.

    Thanks!

    Sorry-
(so per you email-I’m posting the information I emailed you)

The same problem still exists. I tried uploading an image and I see the same problem.

Cemal actually attempted an upload after my hosting provider sent their response, and found the same problem.

@salcaps – This has been forward on to our developers for review. We will have to see if they can sort out what might be happening on your site now.

    Thanks!

Cais-do we have any update at this time? I’m just more curious than anything at this point. Unfortunately, my site is unusable at this time, I would really like to be able to post some new photos soon.

@salcaps – We do not have anything specific for your site and it would be best to keep the conversation in one place, ideally the Bug Report, as splintering the conversation between two (or more) points may lose important details.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
