• After setting up and tweaking NextGEN the last while (see how it runs my site), I noticed there’s not much talk regarding Alex’s excellent plugin to NextGEN itself, NextGEN Gallery Search Engine (NGSE).

So, using NGSE myself, I’ve been quite happy with it. It opens up a lot of possibilities, and I’d argue it’s very much worth adding to the next core update, hopefully with an options menu in the tags admin.

I bring up options because, really, the current build of NGSE is simple and solid, so a set of options would be the logical next step in development.

    I would myself would love:

    1. On/off switch to display images in search results, obviously.
    2. Option to include images marked as ‘excluded’ within a gallery show. *
    3. Option to exclude image titles & descriptions from search. Not a high priority, but it would be useful, as benryerson points out here.

Lastly, I’ve been working with a php buddy on coding tags to display within an images’ lightbox viewer (see thread here), it would be very *nice* if tags under the image were integrated as I’m working towards.

    Thoughts, opinions, wishes?

    * PS: #2 would open up a lot of possibilities within Content Management, meaning you could put images in a gallery, have them hidden from the gallery show (as they’re marked ‘excluded’), but still available for tag searches. Your very own stock agency, one step closer.

Well, to get the ball rolling further…

Another nice option would be to exclude certain galleries from search, either in the gallery options itself or on the search admin page.
