    Dear WP.
I am using NextGen to manage photos arranged in albums and galleries on a non-commercial website.
I would like to allow some friends access to these, without having permission to add/delete/rename, etc. the images in the NextGen galleries and albums.
The “Role and Capabilities” do not provide this option (“viewer”).
How do I allow registered users of the site access to the galleries and/or albums as viewers, only?
Do I upload links of the galleries to pages? The formatting then becomes odd and difficult to search through.
    Thank you, Jessica https://www.catacombsociety.org

  • I might go out on a limb here but restricting/granting access to pages for certain usergroups can’t be done with a default WordPress installation. Afaik you need to use a plugin to accomplish what you have in mind, something like User Access Shortcodes for example.

Using above pluging you could, for example, create pages and then put the galleries right on them using the green square button in the WordPress editor, limit access to the pages to certain usergroups and be done with it.

@totohabschned – Thanks, a good idea to put forward.

@internationalcatacombsociety – I would also recommend the same idea as well. NextGEN Gallery, although offering support for modifying the default WordPress user roles, does not really provide for a “membership” style of “viewer” support as I believe you are describing.
