The Flash file (imagerotator.swf) which drives the Flash slideshow in NextGEN Gallery’s Basic Slideshow display type had a security vulnerability come to the surface.

Unfortunately the file in question is a 3rd party file, which we do not have control over. In addition, the original developer of the Flash file no longer supports it, so updating the file wasn’t a possibility.

Please update to NextGEN Gallery version 2.0.66.37 or later as soon as possible.

For the full details on this matter please see our article posted here: https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/flash-removed/

We believe we have created a graceful fallback for those users that have chosen to use the flash slideshow option (it should now appear as a standard jQuery slideshow).

If you have any questions or additional concerns please create a new support topic so we can address your specific issue.

  • Just updated and the gallery stopped working. All i see is [nggallery id=1 template=caption] on my page.

Never mind, seems to be working after clearing cache.

where is documentation on imagerotator.swf having a security vulnerability I do not see anything in the usual places that would advise that.

@jumboclicks – We are not releasing the specifics of this vulnerability until we feel very comfortable our user base has updated to minimize its potential.

    Thanks!

I updated the NextGEN plugin and dismissed the notice about the Flash removal.

I also read this notice that seems to indicate that the plug-in will now default to a javascript code. Is there something I need to do to get that working?
All I get is a “Loading”, what am i missing in getting the js working?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this.

@johndrake2013 – All of our testing prior to the release showed the plugin would gracefully fall back to the jQuery slideshow. Please create a new support topic if this is not the case with your site so we can help you troubleshoot what might be the issue.

PS: You could try using the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options as a first step as well. Thx.

Slideshow does not work on any mobile device.

    Does anyone have some insight?

@compufixpro – Please start a support topic for the issue you are seeing on your site. This topic is really meant as an “announcement” more than anything else.

    Thanks!
