It appears that the NextGen Gallery images are not automatically optimizing. I have their latest version 2.0.66. I am not sure at what version of NextGen this stopped working at.

I can manually select a gallery for bulk optimization. Individual images can be manually optimized as well.

    Here is my debug log

Please let me know if I can provide any further information.

    Thanks for your help.

I’m starting to think they just like to change things to see what breaks…
    I’ll check into it.

    Hmmm, can’t replicate it.
    1. did you accidentally disable some of the tools (jpegtran, optipng, etc.)?
    2. is nextgen giving you the typical plupload interface, or does it look different than previous versions?

    Thanks for looking into this.

It looks like everything is enabled as usual.

    the following remain not checked
    disable jpegtran
    disable optipng
    disable pngout
    disable gifsicle

By plupload, I assume that you mean the “Add Gallery / Images” admin page. This looks normal to previous versions. I have also attempted to use the “import folder” without optimization success.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. In particular, when using the normal uploader, you should be able to drag-n-drop images onto the upload box to queue them for upload. I’m a bit at a loss as to what could be going on here, especially since everything else appears to be working normally.

That page appears to be working as you describe.

Could a plugin conflict cause this? While I haven’t add anything new, updates to existing plugins are constant. Is there a way to troubleshoot without just disabling everything and then re-enabling one at a time?

are there any other plugins you have installed that interact with nextgen?
Start with that, and then you can go the reverse route, and just disable one at a time until it works again (which hopefully it would at some point). One thought before you start that: what does the optimization status say for a newly uploaded image when you go to the manage gallery area?

There are only two other plugin that interacts with NextGen. The first is FooBox (lightbox plugin) and the other is a modified gallery search engine that Alex Rabe originally created. I have had to modify it to keep it working while NextGen 2.0 has matured.

Images that are freshly uploaded via the plupload show…

    Not processed
    Image Size: 17.04 kB
    Optimize now!

I don’t think either of those would do anything, but somehow the hooks for EWWW are definitely not firing during upload. If you want to post a list of your installed plugins, I can take a quick look and see if I spot anything obvious.

Otherwise, I would disable plugins until you find the culprit, as I can’t think of anything else that would cause the issue.

I found the issue to be faulty settings with the configuration of “Plugin Organizer”. I am not sure when it happened, but EWWW was set to the off position under –>Plugin Filter –>Global Plugins.

I erroneously assumed something had changed again in NextGen Gallery causing EWWW not to trigger automatically.

Thanks again for always having GREAT support.

Interesting, I think we’ve seen issues with that plugin in the past. Glad you were able to track it down. I was hoping they hadn’t changed the nextgen hooks again, since they just changed things with the 2.0.50 series a while ago.
