NextGen Gallery crashes site after update.

  • I found this other article that was similar to my issue, but the resolution does not apply because I’m not running WP Total Cache.

    NextGen not working on WP 4.1.1.

    On WordPress 4.1.1, if I try to update NextGen Gallery from Version 2.0.61 to Version 2.0.71, My entire site (both front-end and back-end) crashes with the error message: “Exception thrown No utilities registered for I_Display_Type_Controller”.

    I’ve restored from backup, but I can’t test the update by disabling my other plugins because I can’t navigate the back-end after it crashes.

    All Plugins I’m using:
    Google Analytics by Yoast
    Google XML Sitemap
    Jetpack by WordPress.com
    Justified Image Grid
    Keyword Statistics
    LayerSlider WP
    NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati (this is the culprit)
    NextGEN Pro by Photocrati
    Wordfence Security
