Newest WP Version, newest NG Version

    Hello,

after the last updates NG does not recognize anymore, if pictures that I upload are horizontal or vertical. Before the latest version of the plugin, it showed horizontal pictures horizontal and vertical pictures vertical in the “edit gallery” mode.

Now it just takes every new uploaded picture horizontal.

Before I can add watermarks I need to work through the uploaded gallerys now and rotate every vertical picture 90 degrees manually.

This costs a lot of time and is an additional workstep.

    Help or fix needed.

    Greetings,

    SFrueh

  • @sfrueh – We just double checked to be sure. But we didn’t change any code related to this functionality in the latest release, and none of are seeing this. Verticals are still handled fine in our testing.

I’m trying to figure out how we’d troubleshoot this. We’d need to be able to see the issue. A couple options might be for you to send us the specific images with which you are having issue, or to send us login credentials to your WP instance. If you are open to doing either of those, please do so via https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/. Put “For Erick” in the subject so I see it.

Usually, if a user has an issue that’s not widely duplicated, it’s the result of a) something in the hosting environment (ie, php version) or b) a plugin conflict. So both of those are likely culprits. It’s just hard to know without being able to see the issue.

    Thanks.

    Hi Erick,

thank you for trying to help.

Today I tested a picture upload from a whole different computer. The issue is still there. Every vertical picture lands in the gallery horizontal and I have to rotate every single one of them “by hand”.

I just filled out the imagely.com/report-bug but could not attach any files.
I would very much like to give you 5, 6 example pictures from us.

They are not very big, our upload size is just 800 x 533 pixel. Do you have an e-mail-adress where I can send you the exemple pictures to? Maybe as e-mail-attachment or per WeTransfer if you like.

    PS:
The last gallery I created before the update ob NG version 3 was on May 5th and everything worked perfectly. Exept the update of NextGEN, the update of the theme and some minor updates of other plugins there where no changes done to my website since then. There was exspecially no installation of additional plugins since then.

    Greetings,

    Hi again,

I’m very sorry for the double post, but I found something out:

Just for testing I just had an other fotographer send me a picture to upload. It worked just fine and the vertical picture uploaded vertical. I tried one of my smartphone photos, and it also worked fine.

It seems that only the vertical pictures of our own fotographer upload horizontal!

He told me that there have been no software updates or whatsoever to his camera and it is the same camera that he uses for our homepage since years (Canon Eos 5D Mark III).

So after that testing I see only 2 possibilitys:

    a)
NG has trouble with certain cameras / camera software since update on version 3.

    b)
Our photographers camera is broken and that it happened right after an NG update is just coincidence. So it would not be an NG problem.

Is one of those two options possible!? I just can’t explain it to myself otherwise.

    Greetins,

    SFrueh

    Hi @sfrueh

As noted in our conversation with you in the bug report, I wanted to update this forum thread with the most recent findings you have discovered, in case it may help someone else seeing this same issue:

Our photographer works on his pictures with photoshop (no lightroom). I usually look at them with irfan view. Whatever goes wrong, is going wrong in his photoshop I think. Today I found out, that if I open one of his pictures in irfan view, save it and then upload it, the problem is gone.

So whatever goes wrong in his photoshop, my Irfan View program seems to “repair” the issue.
Even if the problem is only appearing since the version 3 of NextGEN, I think we can enclose the course on photoshop. So even if there is no final solution now, we are a step further I think.

Thank you for your clues, we’ll try to check on what is wrong with photoshop now.

Thank you for the updates, @sfrueh!

    – Becky
