Nextgen 2.0 Caption Template

It appears that the Caption Template has been depreciated in Nextgen 2.0. While it still exists, when I use it, the number of columns specified for the gallery does not work properly.
What replaces templates in Nextgen 2.0? How can I get the equivalent of the Caption Template for a gallery that works properly?
