I’m just starting a blog using Hemingway. I have a sticky post, and navigation to it from the home page is fine. But on the bottom of the three post pages that I have up, the Next Post link goes to the older post, not the newest. How do I make the navigation buttons at the bottom of each post change so that Next Post takes the reader to the next most recent post? Thank you.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @rfleming4,

Since blog posts are ordererd chronologically, newest to oldest, “Next post” in WordPress parlance means the one published before the current one.

If you want to change the wording of this, so the next post is labeled “Previous” and vice versa, you’ll need to create a child theme, copy over the content.php file, and change the wordings on line 127 and 135 in the child theme.

Hi Anders, thank you for replying and thank you for designing a beautiful theme. For some reason, the navigation on my site is not working as you say it should. I want the navigation links to do just what you say. But they don’t. When I click on “next post” on my home page, it does what I want. It links to the sticky post I want people to read first. But from that point on, the “Next” and “Previous” links are in reverse chronological order, oldest to newest. Clicking on “Next post” at the bottom of the sticky post takes the reader to the next oldest post, not to the newest post. And that continues with subsequent post links. Clicking on “next” takes the reader to the next oldest, not to the next newest. Any ideas about why? TIA.

I found a work-around. Using the plugin Post Types Order, I can manually rearrange my posts to make my newest post appear to be the oldest. When I rearrange the posts this way, the newest post is treated as the oldest, and shows up first when Next Post link is clicked. If anyone has advice on how to make this work around unnecessary, it would b much appreciated. Otherwise, I’ll just need to remember to move each new post to the oldest post position.
