Next Gen Gallery photos won't upload

I cannot upload images to Next Gen galleries. These are existing galleries with several images already in them. I can drag the image files into the upload area, click begin upload and the result is a yellow triangle at the end of each image upload line. Says 0 images uploaded. I followed an earlier post, tried installing an earlier version of Next gen 2.0.7 instead of 2.0.11. Same result.
