next gen gallery gone funny after upgrade

  • We’ve been using next gen gallery for our images.
    And also been using a PayPal button on each of these images (so using this as a shopping environment).

    After upgrading next gen gallery from 1.9 to 2.x
    – We got the dreaded Fatal Error message out of memory that happens when PHP doesn’t have enough memory – we managed to fix this by renaming the plugin and rolling back to the old version.
    (increasing PHP memory didn’t work btw).

    However,
    When we rolled back to the old Next Gen gallery version, the Add To Cart button stopped working on most of the shop.
    – the shortcode used was ignored and it displayed text like this:
