I’m trying to send my first test Newsletter. The messages appear to have been sent, but have not been received.

I have two subscribers (both me). One recipient is the WordPress user that created the newsletter (my work email address), and the other is an additional subscriber (the GMail address). Both users are subscribed to my “Newsletter Mailing List”. The users are set as “Subscribers” in their profiles.

I created a Newsletter, and sent it to my “Newsletter Mailing List” subscribers yesterday afternoon (2:30pm ET). It appears to have successfully sent to both email addresses.

(There were 0% bounces, as well, just didn’t get that in the screenshot.)

Neither user received the email. I checked junk/spam/quarantine folders, and there was no message in either account.

I did receive the “Sending With Mailpoet Works” email when I added my key to the MailPoet plugin:

Any idea what could be wrong?

Quick update: I just also received my “Stats” email. But still no Newsletter emails.

    Hi there @kerri9494,

Just to confirm, are you sending via MailPoet Sending Service?

If the newsletters appear to have been sent, and just not received, then it’s possible they may have been blocked by the recipient mail servers.

As a first step, I’d recommend checking your spam score with Mail Tester as described in our guide here:
    https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/147-test-your-spam-score-with-mail-tester

Please let me know how that goes and send over the URL to the results, or let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the pointer. I went through the steps carefully (what a neat service!), and after I sent the “preview” version of the newsletter, and went to check it at MailTester, I just got the unending rowboat, which I think means that the email was not received by MailTester.

    Hi there @kerri9494,

Thank you for trying that, and yes it sounds like perhaps the newsletter never got through.

However, it’s still not clear whether the newsletters are never actually sending (a sending issue), or if they are getting stuck somewhere along the way so they don’t reach the inboxes (a deliverability issue).

Again, just to confirm, were you sending with our MailPoet Sending Service?

If you are, then one way to improve deliverability would be to set up domain authentication as described in our guide here:
    https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/328-set-up-dkim-for-your-sender-domain

Please let me know how that goes, or if you have any questions!

Thanks for your ongoing help with this.

I don’t know if this helps to answer the question, but the newsletter says that it was successfully sent, in the MailPoet dashboard:

I have tried to send a second newsletter, with the same result.

I am using the MailPoet Sending Service. I am using a GMail address as my “From” address. My subscribers include a GMail address and a .edu address. I have checked the spam/quarantine for the messages on each recipient account, and there’s been no sign of them.

As another point of information, in case it’s helpful, I did receive confirmation emails in my inboxes, for both of the subscribers (who are both me, but with different email addresses), when I added the users to the MailPoet subscriber list, so it seems something was successfully sent from my MailPoet at one point. I also received the key validation email.

I don’t currently have access to a mail/DNS server to do the DKIM process — which is why I’m trying to send through the MailPoet service. If I can get this whole process to work, I plan to subscribe to the Business plan, but that also relies on the MailPoet sending service, so I’d like to make sure I can get this working.

Thanks again so much for your help.

    Hi there @kerri9494,

Thank you for updating us on the status, and for confirming that you are sending via the MailPoet Sending Service.

While using a GMail address can work, using a FROM address that matches your domain is generally much better and improves deliverability.

Similarly, while sending via MailPoet Sending Service does not usually require it, setting up DKIM and configuring your DNS records as mentioned in that guide will also generally improve deliverability.

Since you are sending vis MailPoet Sending Service, please let me know the domain of the site you are sending from, and then I can check our sending logs for any other information about the emails you’ve tried to send so far.

    Thank you!

Aha! That was it. I was using MailPoet from a local/test installation of WordPress. When I moved my codebase to a live production server, it started sending! So I’m good with this for now. Thanks very much for your ongoing help.
