• Lots of questions about newsletter plugins here but not many answers.

I’m interested in creating simple but custom HTML newsletters. It seems there are a number of plugins but it’s not very clear what each one does and which ones are any good.

    MeeNews? MailPress? Subscribe2? Sendit? Newsletter?

I’d prefer it be administered off my own site rather than a 3rd party one like Constant Contact. And it would be ideal to be able to upload my own HTML for the layout.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Mailpress only works with PHP 5.2+ so make sure that your server handles this. I had it up and running on my dev laptop, but when I went to push it live it brought down the whole site. I was able to delete the plugins/mailpress directory and WP cleaned out the rest just fine.

If you install the plugin while wordpress is up and running it won’t let you activate it, so there’s no worries… Just don’t get too wrapped up in local customization if you haven’t made sure the server can handle it.

I’m looking through newsletter plugins now too and have looked at:
meenews, vertical response, Newsletter and g-lock double opt in.
I’m thinking so far that the g-lock one is the best for me.. i don’t want to have to use g-lock but you don’t have to and it lets you configure lots of settings. it also comes as a widget which is what I want and most importantly it allows you to export emails.

Satollo Newsletter is a very good Newsletter plugin. Manage only one list, but import/export is so easy you can manage several lists by this way. It’s what i do. Includes a widget.

I’ve just made a full french translation. It will be available probably in the next update by the author.
