Yoast SEO plugin is set with default schema option “Article” for posts. When I set an individual post with “NewsArticle” type, it still shows “Article” type after publishing. What am I missing?

    Hello @gdpb

Thanks for reaching out about the NewsArticle schema.

I ran your URL through Google’s rich result test tool and I saw the NewsArticle type. See screenshot.

Hello Maybellyne, thanks for the quick response. Soon after I created this topic I noticed that the “NewsArticle” was there. I found it weird, because it seems it took some time to change to NewsArticle, although I defined this option already at the time of publishing.

Then I did another test, published a new post with the “NewsArticle” schema and once again it appeared as “Article”. 1 or 2 hours later it was detected as NewsArticle. I just published one more post to try to show you, but now it has showed up as “NewsArticle” immediately.

Is it possible that Yoast plugin is taking some time to set it after posting?

Would you mind to suggest any other attributes that are probably missing? I’m another one that got hit hard in the latest Google Core updates and, to tell you the truth, it’s just a desperate attempt to get back to what it was before.

My site went from thousands of impressions to zero on Google News, and it dropped dramatically on Google Discover, in addition to Google searches continuing downhill. It is a website with only original content, no strategy like buying backlinks or something like that.

    Hey @gdpb,

    Thank you for your reply.

Hmm, odd. When you set are writing a post to NewsArticle and you publish it, we expect the plugin to immediately output the right metadata/schema data.

Having said this, if you want to further optimize your site for Google News, please consider getting a News SEO subscription, which is an addon to Yoast SEO / Premium to create a news sitemap and further optimizes your schema for Google News. If you have any sales-related questions, please contact us directly as there is no place here on .org for commercial products or support. Thank you.
