news template not showing

Hi All

I have come across a strange problem when set I up a site with a static home page and the defined posts to be on a news page.

Everything shows up fine but I can’t find the right template to change what info it shows, heading and date etc. I have tried index.php ,single.php , archive.php . It is acting like the page.php template but I have looked at the code at it is not using the page.php.
