• Ia€?ve installed two new themes per published instructions. However, when I go to the “Presentation” section, only the two originally installed themes show. Any ideas? I saw one other post similar to this, but she fixed it on her own and Ia€?m not exactly sure how it was done.

    Thank you,
    Patricia

  • Did you try a hard refresh to make sure you’re not viewing an old page?

Did you upload the full folders? If you ftp into your site, you can see the 4 folders in the themes directory?

Make sure the themes are in a top-level folder inside wp-content/themes. Each theme is made up of various files and an image folder inside a theme folder. Some themes unzip themselves into a second folder which causes problems.

Your themes path should look like:

    wp-content/themes/ – then:

    default/images (folder) + files
    classic/images (folder) + files

So any other theme you download, for instance Connections, should also look like that:

    Connections/images (folder) + files

Yup. my directory looks like this:
    https://www.chaoticgestalt.net/wordpress /wp-admin /wp-content/themes /jakarta/images(folder) + files outside of the images folder.

What permissions are set on your themes folders? The jakarta folder should have the same permissions as the default and classic ones.

You may be on to something. Please explain. How do I set permissions?

Are you using an ftp client to access your site’s folders, or a server-side host solution such as Cpanel?

smart ftp to upload, but I can access the files through vDeck.

In smart ftp, try right clicking on the jakarta folder and see if there’s a “properties” selection. If so, click on it, and see what it shows – there should be an area which shows columns labeled “owner”, “group”, “world” or similar; each column should have 3 lines listing “read”, “write”, “execute” with check boxes. There may be a “numeric value” listed. Your theme folders should be “numeric value” 755, or check boxes as follows: Owner: read, write, execute all checked; Group: read, execute checked; World: read, execute checked.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to call it a night. If y’all have any further ideas, please post them and I will come back to this sometime tomorrow night.

    Thanking you in advance
    Patricia.

Oops! Disregard last post Vkaryl, let me try out what you suggested.

Okay. I’ll be here a little while yet, otherwise someone else will pick this up tomorrow – I’ve got a long day in town (80 mile round trip to start out with, so we hit every store in town while we’re there!) so won’t be back until later in the day….

    Thread Starter patriciamckenna

    (@patriciamckenna)

    Yup, it all checks out.

80 miles…. Yikes. I commute to Seattle from Everett (64 miles rt).
I’ll give it 5 more minutes and then I must sleep. 4:00 a.m. comes very early. Great job, by the way.

Hmm. That’s good that permissions are okay, but phooey that the theme is still not showing! In the Presentations tab in Admin, there’s not a notation about a “broken theme”, is there?

wish there were. Should we sleep on it?
