• Hi Everyone,

I just installed WP 2.0 – Previously I had been using bloggers but am afraid of my blog being shut down randomly.

1- WP doesn’t seem to recognise the <br> tag in the html format. If I save a post it’s as if there is no <br> there? Why?

2- Does every post we make become a separate page as far as the search engines are concerned?

3- If we change something on the sidebar (ex: adding a new link), will the link appear on ALL of your previous posts (separate pages) as well?

    Thanks

  • 1. <br_/> is the break tag pls leave out the _

    2. yes it sets each post to a ID

    3. yes if your sidebar function is called on those other pages

I hope I got all that right ??

    Thanks for the replies.

Question #1 is still not resolved though.

    I tried using <br>
and <br/> … yet none of those actually produces a break.??

    Any thoughts ?

Don’t use <br> or <br/> … just hit the enter key once. Hitting it twice will make para tags.

    I tried that too.

If I hit enter once it goes down 2 lines ??

If I try to put the curser in between the 2 lines it doesn’t work. WP sees the 2 lines but not the one in between.

tried wrapping your content in <p> </p> tags ?

Are you using the RTE (wysiwyg editor) in WP 2.0?
That one works like most of the wysiwyg things:
    1xEnter = paragpraph <p>
    Shift+Enter = br <br />
and you don’t have to put in any code manually ??

Shift + Enter works when I type it in.

But it doesn’t show any break in the preview area…nor does it break when I post it

    ??

Well, if it works for everybody else (and we were posting this solution for a couple of days now!) then
either there is something wrong with your install
or you are doing something wrong.
(Just tested again in this minute on a test install and it works)

    Thanks again.

I’ll keep trying to figure it out and watch for any other irregularities.

    ??

Should be <br /> with a space, not <br/> right? Although that probably doesn’t make a difference.

Mopek1, could it be a CSS setting?

You have GOT to be kidding me? Snuffalopagos…. *adds this to his list of, yet one more things…..* I assume that by switching to the NON-WYSIWYG form, it behaves like it used to? For me the WYSIWYG form is too much….

    TG,
the wysiwyg is too much for me, too ?? – I turn it on in a test install when I have to answer questions like above.
When turned off everything seems to work like it used to.

In the wysiwyg, if you indavertantly hit the Enter to get a , you cannot set the istertion point between the old and the new line, but you can backspace to the end of the old one. Then you should be able to get a break i.e.
    by hitting the Shift+Enter.

It works fine for me using Firefox on a windows system.
If it doesn’t work, there is something strange going on in your system.
For simple things like paragraphs and linefeeds you should’n have to default to the HTML editor.
