• I just re-installed WordPress in order to upgrade from 2.8.x to 2.9.1. Was not a particularly smooth process but I somehow managed to get it done, now I’m back to zero with learning my way around wordpress and trying to do something with it.

In my Admin panel, under “WordPress Development Blog” I am seeing a whole slew of warnings like this:

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 564 in /mnt/files/s/schatzkins.com/www/wp/wp-includes/class-simplepie.php on line 13262

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 510 in /mnt/files/s/schatzkins.com/www/wp/wp-includes/class-simplepie.php on line 13350

It looks like there are about 50 entries in that column. Likewise, I see similar warnings under “Plugins”

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 564 in /mnt/files/s/schatzkins.com/www/wp/wp-includes/class-simplepie.php on line 13262

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 510 in /mnt/files/s/schatzkins.com/www/wp/wp-includes/class-simplepie.php on line 13350

What are all these warnings? I haven’t done a THING since running the initial installation; haven’t tried to put in any plugins or do any development. So, why am I seeing all these warnings, and is there anything I can to make them go away.

  • Try re-uploading the wp-includes folder.

OK, I re-uploaded the wp-includes folder, which took like 20 minutes, but the “WordPress Development Blog” is still showing a long list of entries.

I noticed that there is a “configure” link next to the header, so I clicked that, and I selected “2” for the number entries, but I’m still getting dozens of entries.

Likewise “Other wordpress news” is producing dozens of entries, as is the “plugins” column on the left. So, umm…

    Now what?

    Thanks,

Did you upload wp-includes from a fresh download of WP 2.9.1? Your previous coy may be damaged.

No, I did not upload from a “fresh” download of WP 2.9.1 because that detail was left out of was not the instruction. I have a separate download on a different computer, do you think that will be “fresh” enough? I hope so, I’m going to try that now.

    Thanks,

OK, I restored a “fresh” version of the wp-includes folder, and all the warnings are STILL there. Now what?

Hmm…try re-uploading everything from your fresh download except wp-config.php and the wp-content folder.

    You’re guessing?
