Newbie needs desperate help in choosing a theme

  • Hi All,

    As a newbie to wordpress I am at a complete loss and seriously need help. I am trying to make my site appear like a news/magazine style.

    My site https://www.compulsivetraveller.com is my own travel news and blogging site. I’m using the Responsive Theme by cyberchimps. I really like it, but I cannot get it to do exactly what I want it to do. I am desperately trying to make my site look similar to these
    BackpackingMatt & JohnnyJet.

    I do not know what to do now and would appreciate advice on the following:
    Can anyone recommend a similar theme to make my website look like the others?

    What widgets or plugins would greatly assist me to do what the other sites have achieved?

    As someone who has never used WordPress I do not know where to go. I’m desperate to get the layout sorted ASAP as I’m travelling in 4 days need to write several articles on my upcoming trip.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated and welcome.

    Quite frankly, no. There are a lot of themes out there, and nobody knows them all.

    A better approach is to figure out exactly what it is that you like about those sites (a statement like “what the other sites have achieved” is really not helpful at all, as this can be taken on several levels), and then plug those characteristics into the theme tag filter here:

    Another way: if a site is using WordPress, then use your browser’s “View Source” function to view its sort code. Click on the link to the style sheet, and it will tell you which theme that site is using.

    A well-designed site is the result of weeks and months of work, not 4 days spent mostly preparing for a trip. Worry less about appearance and more about content. Your site looks fine as it is out of the box, except for the lack of content. No matter how pretty your site it, no one will visit it if it lacks content or the content that is there is of subpar quality. You can always tweak things as you go. There is no need to imitate another web site.
