• Hi, I want to set up a blog for myself and three family members to discuss parental care. Simplicity is key, so before I set up the blog, is there a way for the blog members/users to be notified whenever there is a new post? Also, can the members/users be restricted to those identified by the admin?

    thanks,

    brad

  • There are a number of plug ins that allow people to subscribe to your blog. If your intent is to only notify the people in your family then you should probably set one of the plug ins up and not put the subscribe link on the page. Then you can manually enter the emails of the people you want notified. If you want others to also subscribe then you should follow all the instructions.
Two that you might want to try:

    Hope this helps.

Also, can the members/users be restricted to those identified by the admin?

Yes. Don’t let anybody register (just study your admin panel and find all the options you need) and register users manually.
You can even hide your blog for nen-registered visitors.

Just an idea, you may want to help educate some of your family members of the beauty of RSS. Heck even the pending IE 7 will be embracing it ??

hmmm– regarding RSS, what’s the best way to handle cross functionality? One person is on Win98 using Netscape, another is on Mac OS9 using IE, and another is using her blackberry most of the time. oh, brother! (that’d be me, Mac OSX & Netscape 7.2).
