• Hello There,
First off, I have never blogged before. I am making a blog for a Real Estate Team/Group I work for. I setup a WordPress acount then hosted it through Bluehost.com. I selected a theme. Added some pages, links, posts, etc. However, a few small things I need to work out. First Off:

I have a page (self linked via the theme) titled “blogging”. I would like that link to go back to my homepage where all my blog posts are listed in chronological order.

I also did the same thing for the archive button. I made a page, which goes nowhere. How do I make a link for my users to goto the archive area?

    Thanks,
    Brendan

If you want to see what I am talking about and/or add any other advice it would be much appricated. https://www.TeamTapper.com

  • 1) What is the reason to use “Pages” over “Posts”…I “get” things best when I am given an example, instead of a verbal explanation…so any examples are welcome.

Sorry, I’m going to give a verbal explanation anyway, but hope it will help.

A “post” is an entry in your WordPress “blog”. The default behavior of WordPress is that this is a dated entry, and your blog is a collection of all the posts you make over time. (Remember, the whole idea of “blogs” began as “online diaries”, so a lot of terms and concepts reflect this ancestry.) Your blog page in WordPress will show your most recent posts — if you’ve made a lot of posts, there will be a “previous entries” link at the bottom of the page, where readers can view earlier posts.

A “page” is independent of your “blog.” Usually this is something like “About me” or “Contact me” or “FAQ” or some other information that is generally static. The idea with a page is that it is not something you will be changing much, except perhaps to edit.

So “posts” are like diary entries in your “blog” page. A “page” refers to all your other pages that are not the main blog page.

If you start looking at WordPress sites (and other blog sites) you will see a similar setup to what is described above, although there are many variations.

Page – with capital P, that’s how we call the thing created in WP admin > Write > Write Page.

Which means in WP we have Pages and posts.
